Teaching and assessment policies in distance education diploma programs
For the first semester of the year (1443/1442 AH)
Dear faculty members in the diploma program offered by the Deanship of Distance Education.
We would like to inform you that the evaluation mechanism for the first semester in 1443H, will be as follows:
First- Semester Teaching Policy:
Policy text: This policy is based on the fulfillment of the following basic criteria:
- One meeting per week of 80 minutes is offered to discuss the scientific material according to the study schedule.
- The percentage of the taught units for each course in the program shall not be less than (25%) by the asynchronous method in addition to what is taught synchronously.
- Implementing policies related to ensuring the quality of e-learning programs and courses.
- There must be mechanisms to verify and prove the identity of the student when attending the test.
- The final exam questions and their duration should be equal (standardized) for students who study the same course, even if they are registered in different sections for the same course.
Second- The policy of evaluating e-course evaluation scores in distance education programs
Policy text: A faculty member participating in the development/or teaching of an electronic course in the distance education program is obligated to follow the student evaluation mechanism approved in the distance education regulation, where the students’ achievement is evaluated at one hundred (100), categorized as follows:
1- Semester / formative assessment (30 marks) distributed as follows:
- (2) Assignments, each of which is evaluated in three grades
- (4) Short assessments, each with five points
- (1) One post in the course's forum is rated with four marks
2- Final evaluation (70 marks) to pass the exam of the final course, which was taken in attendance.

Third- Policy for Raising Evaluation Results:
A faculty member participating in teaching an electronic course in the distance education program is committed to facilitating students’ access to their estimated grades based on the quarterly and final educational activities that they have completed periodically by uploading and making them available on the student’s score record in the Blackboard e-learning system with appropriate feedback, as well as through the Blackboard system Educational Affairs (ODUS Plus).
Fourth - Faculty Evaluation Policy:
A faculty member is evaluated as shown in Table (2) based on the following:
- Create activities (periodic assessments, assignments, and forum) in the e-learning management system, which represents (40%) of the total assessment total.
- Encourage the student to carry out self-assessments during the semester by creating an advertisement for each self-assessment.
- Commitment to attend all lectures and record them (12 twelve lectures) in the Ultra Virtual Classroom system (Blackboard) on computers (computers) and this represents (50%) of the total assessment total.
- A faculty member is obligated to prepare a course report according to a course report form approved by the National Center for Academic Accreditation and Assessment.

- Rules for presenting lectures in the Blackboard Collaborate system:
-
- The faculty member must log in to the synchronous lecture that is listed on the system (Blackboard Collaborate Ultra)
- The number of actual simultaneous lectures that a faculty member is required to give is (12) twelve recorded lectures during the semester, even if the section was assigned after a period of time during the semester.
- The faculty member must complete the full quorum for lectures, which is (12) twelve recorded lectures. In the event that there is a shortage due to the assignment of the section late in the semester, this deficiency is compensated by the establishment of compensatory lectures.
- The faculty member creates the make-up lecture within the (Blackboard Collaborate Ultra) system in the middle of the school week.
- The unrecorded lecture is counted as an absence by the faculty member and he is required to compensate for it.
- A faculty member cannot give two or more lectures - original, compensatory or mixed - in one day for the same scientific course for the same section, and if he does so, only one lecture will be counted.
- The course recording period must not be less than (60) sixty actual minutes (whether for a one-hour, two-hour or three-hour course), and if the recorded time is less than that, the recorded lecture will be counted as an absence.
- The faculty member must ensure the validity of the recording after it is included in the recordings, and if there is a defect in the recording (not using the microphone or the absence of the annotated lecture), the recorded lecture will be counted as absent even if the actual recording period is (60) sixty minutes or more.
- If there is a discrepancy in the schedule of a faculty member between two or more sections (distance education or affiliation), only one section will be counted, and (absence) will be recorded in the other section or sections even if other lectures are given and recorded.
- The necessity of presenting the lectures through a visual or audio explanation for the students.
- It is necessary to adhere to the start and end date of the lecture In the virtual classroom system according to the scheduled dates in the educational affairs system (ODUS Plus), Note that submitting them on a different date will be counted as additional lectures until the maximum number of compensatory lectures is used up.
- Synchronous lectures will be generated automatically on a weekly basis by the Deanship of E-Learning and Distance Learning. A faculty member will be considered absent and the lecture will not be counted in the evaluation if he does one of the following:
- If he modified the time or date of the session.
- If he deletes the scheduled lecture and creates a new lecture in its place.
- If you use the guest link to enter the lecture.
- A faculty member shall comply with the establishment of compensatory lectures with the following conditions:
- The original lecture of the same section will not be held on the same day, and if he does so, only the original lecture will be counted.
- Not on Fridays and Saturdays or on public holidays.
- The guest link is not used to enter the lecture, and if he does, he will be considered absent and the lecture will not be counted for him in the evaluation.
- The time of a previous lecture is not modified to be used again as a new lecture.
- A faculty member is obligated to give compensatory lectures in proportion to the schedules of students in the following cases:
- Lectures that have been scheduled and approved on official holidays, such as National Day .
- Lectures that have been scheduled, but canceled due to emergency conditions such as technical failures, failures caused by power outages, or failures caused by inclement weather.
- Lectures that have not been scheduled due to faculty members not being accommodated by colleges, which causes delays in scheduling the study material by the Deanship of Admission and Registration, for example: the first lecture in the first week of the semester.
- Important instructions to consider:
-
- The necessity to read and approve the teaching approval clauses.
- The evaluation is calculated automatically from the beginning of the week The first of the semester.
- It is necessary for the faculty member to adhere to the educational material approved in the distance education program and developed electronically, which is published on the e-learning management system, with the possibility of enriching the developed course with additional resources related to its content according to the needs of learners.
- Commitment to the communication policy in distance education programs, which states the necessity of communicating with students by responding to messages sent by them through (Course Messages).
- The faculty member is prompted to create a contact(Contact Information)It contains the data of the faculty member and the means of communication with him during the semester, so that it is easy for students to communicate with him.
- It is necessary to ensure the presence of students in the division, specifically during the first two weeks of the beginning of the semester by communicating with students synchronously within the virtual classroom, and following up on their activities and performance in it by setting appropriate grades and sending feedback.
- The necessity for the faculty member to make available the activities within the e-learning management system (Blackboard) on the dates shown in Table (2).
- The number of activities that a faculty member must carry out in one course in one semester is (7) seven activities, which are: 4 periodic assessments, two assignments, and a forum.
- The faculty member is obligated to set the due grades, and to amend the settings, dates and dates for the availability of the following activities: (4 periodic assessments, two assignments, and one forum) according to the dates indicated in the teaching and evaluation mechanism approved by the Deanship.

- The necessity for the faculty member to be present during the exams, especially the final exam if it is specified electronically, to answer the students’ questions if they encounter problems during the exam. Example: Opening a virtual class on the Blackboard system during the time of the final exam.
- The deadline for submitting lectures is on Thursday of the twelfth week (9/4/1443 corresponding to 14/11/2021).
- The last date for recording grades in the grade center for the semester is Sunday of the thirteenth week (16/4/1443 corresponding to 21/11/2021 ).
- The faculty member submits the course report form to the course he taught during the semester according to the requirements of the National Center for Academic Accreditation and Assessment
- Review the list of tasks below that must be performed by the course instructor in the Distance Learning Diploma Programs.
